Updated: Jan 4

December 3rd : Themes for celebration and contemplation

As December gets underway, we all know that we are now in the countdown to Christmas, otherwise known as Advent. This will probably mean a daily chocolate treat as we feel our excitement and anticipation for Christmas Day growing.

If you are looking for some themes and points of interest to add to your advent countdown, the Bulldogz Christmas spirit is in full flow and we can provide you with some of the fun, serious and little known points of celebration for each day on this magical countdown.

December 3

Giving Tuesday

A global generosity movement created in 2012 as a day encouraging people to do good. This is predominately an American movement but is extending to international success. There are some teaching resources available on the Learning to give website here.

Trick Shot Day

An entertaining celebration instigated by the Basketball trick shot masters, the Harlem Globetrotters to be celebrated on the first Tuesday of December. Although being an obvious advertising strategy for the all-stars Basketball team, "trick shots" have become an online sensation in various sporting and skill fields and numerous compilation videos are available of people demonstrating extraordinary skills.

International Day of Persons With Disabilities

A UN observed international day proclaimed in 1992 in resolution 47/3. The UN data suggests that approximately 15% of the world population are disabled, more than 1 billion. 80% live in developing countries.

The campaign aims to encourage Governments to take appropriate measures to ensure people with disabilities have access to all aspects of society on an equal basis with others, and to identify and eliminate barriers to accessibility.

The UN provides resources here.

There are teaching resources on this topic available on the IDPWD website.
