Aragón Government have introduced restrictions to reduce seating capacity on the public transport to 75% and standing passengers must have half a square metre of personal space available as the region sees a further step back towards the COVID lockdown state we endured earlier in the year.
This has seen the Zaragoza tram service reintroduce two car operations this August. Passenger numbers normally witness a steep seasonal decline over the holiday month, but numbers are even lower as people are opting to reduce their movements during this time of crisis. Data has revealed some shocking declines in passenger numbers, with both tram and bus occupancy down between 40 and 50% on last year numbers.
Not only are facemasks mandatory on the Zaragoza public transport network, but use of hydrogel to clean hands as well. The tram service normally operates a reduced frequency in August but this year the July frequencies will be maintained to provide conditions to uphold occupation restrictions.
This will see the welcome return of two car working on the tram line for the foreseeable future.
