Have you heard of 'text-talk?' It usually uses acronyms, for example – ROFL, LOL, FYI, ASAP, CUL8R

Do you know what these mean? (CUL8R is 'see you later')

Do you use emoticons or emojis?

Do you think that technology will make languages irrelevant? Watch the video

Make some predictions about technology that could be used to change the way we learn.

Pause after each new technology and ask yourself/each other 'does this have a language application?'

Debate

Split into groups to discuss the following questions. After 5 minutes stop and move to a new group, with different people. NEW PLACES, NEW FACES. Try to communicate with as many people as possible to benefit from different vocabulary, grammar, accents and opinions.

AT HOME: try this as a writing exercise or start a discussion in the FORUM

1. How are traditional language learning methods better or worse than today?

2. If you could speak any language without learning, would you?

3. What are your preferred methods for learning a language?

4. Is there a danger that computers will replace humans?

5. What are your predictions for how life will be changed by technology in 20 years? How has it been changed already?
