From the Halfway Line: Zaragoza GAA Tournament Report

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

Zaragoza GAA played a tournament in Barcelona, a brief report from their Facebook page can be found below.

Last Saturday we played the final regional tournament of the year, sunny Barcelona being the venue. Our first group game was against current champions Madrid Harps GAA who proved to be strong, winning on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-1. It must be noted that this was the first time Zaragoza GAA scored against them, in competition or friendlies! CJ O'Portlaigh got both scores to write himself into the history books. The second game pitted us against Sitges, and we got our first win of the day with a comfortable victory. After a lengthy break, we took on the hosts Barcelona Gaels in the semi final, who used all their experience to win without having to go into fifth gear. The 3rd/4th place playoff immediately followed, and the heat and fatigue finally caught up with us, as Valencia put us to the sword to take 3rd place. A very enjoyable day was had by all, and a shout out to captain Ben Mulholland who might have played his last game with Zaragoza GAA. Your commitment and leadership is much appreciated!

The Zaragoza girls teamed up with their Sevilla counterparts, to form the "Zaravilla" team. They lost their first two games before beating Gran Sol on a scoreline of 3-0 to 2-2. Well done to Jen, Oonagh, Emilie Pasquet, Beatriz Genzor Gómara and Rachel Rose for their efforts ad they proudly represented Zaragoza GAA. Hopefully next year we will have a full Zaragoza Ladies' team!
